Reviews & Scores
(5.8 g/l total acidity, 3.47 pH, 28 g/l dry extract, 14% alcohol): Bright red with a hint of amber at the rim. Captivating nose offers red cherry, sweet spices, gunflint and rose petal aromas, complicated by riper nuances of tomato paste and almond syrup. Lush and concentrated, with sweet red berry and mocha flavors perked up by hints of white pepper and Asian spices. This classic, elegantly styled wine finishes long and brisk, with building but fine tannins and a lovely late kick of flowers and minerals. Though a big, strapping wine, it manages to convey a sense of great delicacy. According to winemaker Giorgio Lavagna, the 1998 is a very underrated vintage, as it followed on the heels of the much touted 1997, but the Barolos are just as good if not better, at times much better. I couldn't agree more.

Bruno Giacosa’s 1998 Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto is another gorgeous wine. The fresh, floral bloom the wine had in its infancy has softened and the aromas today are moving towards sensations of dried flowers and spices. The wine retains a lovely inner sweetness backed up by considerable structure, which leads me to believe that the tannins might very well outlast the fruit. This is a beautiful Le Rocche, but probably won’t be one of the longest-lived vintages of this wine. The wine can be enjoyed today if opened several hours prior to serving, but should also drink well for at least another decade.

Exotic, almost jammy aromas, with hints of spices and flowers. Full-bodied, with big, round tannins and a ripe, almost sweet fruit finish. This is a young and lively red. Like tasting crushed berries. Best after 2006. 1,200 cases made.

This is drinking so beautifully now with so much plum, licorice, and berry character. It's full body and very soft with polished tannins and a super long finish. The round texture and decadent fruit is wonderful.
