"This was much meatier than the Lignier, with a hint of spit on the grill, so to speak. Its finish was long and smooth, quite sensual despite its beefy richness "

I was a bit surprised to find more than a trace of new wood still present though certainly not enough to really intrude on the still relatively youthful spice, earth and dark berry fruit aromas that display only touches of secondary aromas that lead to rich and moderately full middle weight flavors that offer good punch on the acceptably long finish. This is a curious wine in the sense that it's clearly ripe in the context of the vintage and still fresh yet doesn't have that great mid-palate concentration that the best examples of the vintage bring to the party. In sum, this is a fine wine but not a great one that should drink well over another decade. Two consistent notes..

An impressive, natural-tasting red, showing lots of ripe fruit married to toast, spice and intensity. Good, pure, clean freshness suggests precise winemaking from excellent raw material. Medium-bodied, with a long, lingering finish.
