Acker held another stellar sale, “live online,” on Thursday and Friday, closing out their 2020 New York auction schedule with US$7.6M in sales and achieving 143 New World Records. The holiday-themed auction contained four featured collections, with over 250 lots from the Amazing Cellar of Wilf Jaeger that drew international attention, as bidders brawled over just a slice of one of the world’s most formidable collections. With a remarkable $63,165,976.96 total sold in its 2020 New York live auctions, Acker will waste no time in getting back to business in 2021, with an exciting, two-day auction planned back in New York on January 14th and 15th.

With Burgundy at the forefront of the auction market, Domaine de la Romanee Conti and wines from the great Henri Jayer tangoed to and fro in the Top Ten Lots of the sale, with six bottles of 2013 Romanee Conti in banded original wood taking the top spot at $93,000. The second and third positions went to four bottles each of 2015 Romanee Conti, selling for $80,600, and 2016 Romanee Conti that brought in $68,200. Fourth place was shared by twelve bottles of 1999 H. Jayer for Georges Echezeaux in original cardboard and four bottles of 2014 DRC Romanee Conti, which sold for $62,000 a piece. Another split occurred in the sixth spot, as twelve bottles of 2001 H. Jayer for Georges Echezeaux and three bottles of 1980 DRC Romanee Conti each realized $59,520. Eighth place went the same way, with equal billing going to one Jeroboam of 1990 DRC La Tache and three bottles of 2016 Romanee Conti, at $52,080. The Top Ten concluded with a swan song, as Jayer returned with twelve bottles of 2000 H. Jayer for Georges Echezeaux that fetched $49,600.

It was the wines of Domaine Dujac, however, that lead the ledger with 21 New World Records of the 143 total records set throughout the auction. Highlights from the acclaimed Morey St. Denis-based Domaine include three bottles of 2002 Clos de la Roche that sold for $5,208 and a jeroboam of 2006 Romanee St. Vivant that went for $8,680. Also of note were the 14 New World Records achieved by Domaine de la Romanee Conti, followed closely by the eight attained by Domaine Armand Rousseau.

“It’s always thrilling to hold court over a boisterous sale full of spirited bidding,” remarked Acker Chairman, John Kapon. “What a tremendous way to wrap up our bicentennial year in New York City, on such a high note! The appetite for fine wine cannot be satisfied as the market continues to consume at an astounding rate. Even though we are in the throes of the holiday season, we’ll be taking no time off, closing out the year with our final ‘live online’ sale on December 12th in Hong Kong, as well as internet auctions continuing until the last minutes of 2020. Then we will be back right at the start of 2021, as our two January live auctions are already taking shape — cheers to another splendid auction season!”

The auction season continues for Acker with another “live online,” in Hong Kong on December 12th and returns domestically in 2021 on January 14th and 15th. Acker is currently accepting wines for its winter “live online” auctions, with weekly web auctions closing every week. For more information, email info@ackerwines.com.
